LifeSource Cortisol Complex contains:

  • Beta-Sitosterol
  • L-Theanine
  • Magnolia Bark Extract
  • Green Tea Leaf Extract - EGCG
  • Bitter Orange Peel Extract
  • Banaba Leaf Extract
  • Vanadium - Vanadyl Sulfate

Beta-Sitosterol: Beta-sitosterol, a natural food sterol traditionally known to reduce cholesterol levels, has acutely reduced anxiety in a mouse study from the Weizmann Institute of Science, Israel.

L-Theanine: Our findings suggest that L-theanine has the potential to promote mental health in the general population with stress-related ailments and cognitive impairments.

Magnolia Bark:
Magnolia bark has been proven to work as an anxiolytic, helping to lower anxiety and depression and reduce stress. Magnolia bark can also act as a sedative, directly helping to facilitate sleep.

Green Tea Leaf Extract: Green Tea Extract is associated with several health benefits, including improvements in mood, cognition, and a reduction of stress and anxiety-like symptoms.

EGCG - Green Tea: Epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) is a unique plant compound that gets a lot of attention for its potential positive impact on health. It's thought to reduce inflammation, aid weight loss, and help prevent heart and brain disease.

Bitter Orange Peel Extract: Clinical trials conducted with Bitter Orange - Citrus aurantium or Citrus sinensis on people with anxiety showed that inhalation or oral administration of Citrus aurantium and inhalation of Citrus sinensis can exert beneficial effects on stress and anxiety.

Banaba Leaf Extract: Leaves from the tree have been found to slow the body's production of Cortisol, the stress hormone that causes the “fight or flight” feeling, according to a study published in Life Sciences. “The active ingredient in Banaba Leaf is corosolic acid, which slows the body from turning inactive cortisol to active cortisol.

Vanadium as Vanadyl Sulfate: Studies indicate that Vanadyl Sulfate plays an important part in supporting the body in times of stress.

Can Stress Make You Gain Weight? Stress has been studied and the results are in.
And it's not entirely because you stress eat, a new study suggests. Researchers found that chronic stress may pump up the rate at which new fat cells are formed, according to a report published Tuesday in Cell Metabolism.

Cortisol is nicknamed the “stress hormone” for its role in the fight or flight response, a physiological mechanism that releases hormones like adrenalin and cortisol to prioritize important body functions under stressful circumstances.

Having adequate cortisol levels/effects are quite essential to health and quality of life. This fact is becoming increasingly clear to doctors who are trying to help people by a more complete and natural scientific methods. In fact, cortisol is the foundation of the entire endocrine system. It is essential for our adaptation to the demands of life, yet all other major hormones counteract it. If a person does not make sufficient cortisol, their quality of life can and usually is low. They also cannot tolerate or benefit from the optimization of their thyroid, estrogen, DHEAS, or even testosterone levels. By trying to help patients with fatigue and pain with natural methods and by performing saliva testing for cortisol levels, Dr. Lindner has learned that partial cortisol deficiency is common, especially among women. Women have lower cortisol levels/effects and responses than men do. Cortisol deficiency accounts for women's much higher incidences of fatigue, anxiety, depression, fibromyalgia, and autoimmune diseases. Many studies have demonstrated a hypoactive hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal system in persons with these problems. Studies also show that the SSRI antidepressants (Prozac, Paxil, Lexapro, etc.) act upon the brain to increase ACTH production and cortisol levels. This is one reason why they alleviate so many different kinds of symptoms, and also why it is so hard to stop taking them (cortisol withdrawal).

What is Adrenal Fatigue?

Adrenal Fatigue is a stress-related condition that occurs when your adrenal glands, hypothalamus, and pituitary gland (together – the HPA axis) are functioning below their optimal level. Although you might not have heard of the adrenals, they perform several vital roles in maintaining your health. Most importantly, they control your body’s response to stress by releasing hormones like cortisol, DHEA, and epinephrine, which are used to regulate your heart rate, immune system, energy storage, and more.

When the adrenal glands are overstimulated for a long period of time, they begin to weaken. Typical causes of Adrenal Fatigue include long-term stress from jobs, relationship problems, or even chronic disease. Eventually, the adrenals weaken so much that they are unable to respond adequately when we need them. At this point, many Adrenal Fatigue sufferers report symptoms like a feeling of constant tiredness, lack of enthusiasm, and mild depression. Sleeping long hours does not help – they wake up just as tired as when they went to bed. And they often resort to large caffeinated drinks, sugary sodas, or other stimulants to get through the day. This is why Cortisol Support can be helpful.

Some symptoms of low cortisol, or hypoadrenalism, include:

  • Mental and psychological ailments such as depression
  • Faintness and dizziness
  • Weakness and fatigue
  • Heart palpitations
  • Emotional hypersensitivity
  • Inability to cope with stress
  • Social anxiety
  • Muscle weakness
  • Headache, scalp ache, or general body ache
  • Severe or dull lower back pain
  • Extremely sensitive skin
  • Nausea, diarrhea, and vomiting
  • Abdominal pain and hunger pain despite an empty stomach
  • Extreme craving for salty foods
  • Anxiety and jitters
  • Clumsiness and confusion
  • Motion sickness
  • Insomnia and dark circles under the eyes
  • Low bladder capacity and symptoms of IBS
  • Irregular or non-existent menstrual period

The most common form of cortisol deficiency is partial central adrenal insufficiency due to inadequate ACTH production. It is not diagnosable by current conventional practices. Most doctors think that all cortisol deficiency is Addison's Disease.
However, the problem usually does not lie in the failure of the adrenal glands. The brain-hypothalamic-pituitary system is simply not secreting enough ACTH throughout the day to stimulate sufficient cortisol production by the adrenals. More than any other hormone, blood levels of cortisol do not accurately reflect its effects in the various tissues of the body. Some persons with normal-appearing cortisol and DHEAS level have marked symptoms and respond well to cortisol supplementation.

Of course, these symptoms won’t all occur simultaneously, or immediately. Some people suffering from low cortisol will experience a couple of these symptoms, perhaps one after another.

Causes of Low Cortisol

The circumstances and diseases that trigger low cortisol, or hypoadrenalism, vary. Besides the autoimmune disorder Addison’s disease, other causes include secondary hypoadrenalism or a deficiency of ACTH. Secreted from the anterior pituitary gland, ACTH, or adrenocorticotropic hormone is a polypeptide tropic hormone that elevates its production when the body suffers from low cortisol levels as a result of Addison’s disease. It’s possible for the body to develop a tumor as the result of increased ACTH, known as Cushing’s disease.

Another cause is tuberculosis. Tuberculosis is an infectious disease that usually attacks the lungs, but can also affect the adrenal glands and trigger hypoadrenalism. If the disease destroys the adrenal glands, it is irreversible.

Other rare disorders that can damage the adrenal glands and trigger low cortisol levels are:

  • Adrenal inflammation related to HIV
  • Congenital adrenal hyperplasia, an enzyme disorder
  • Amyloidosis
  • Bilateral adrenalectomy
  • Adrenoleukodystrophy
  • Sarcoidosis
  • Metastases
