Ginkgo is effective for increasing cognitive ability, helping memory, increasing concentration capacity, reducing mental fog, helping depression, and increasing energy and vitality. Ginkgo is for cerebral vascular insufficiency and works by increasing blood flow into the head, brain, and body, and getting the blood across the blood-brain barrier. As one gets older, blood flow to the brain and to peripheral tissue decreases with those resulting symptoms. Ginkgo can be a wake-up call for those with system dysfunction. Diminished cerebral circulation can also result in vertigo, ringing in the ear, Alzheimer’s symptoms, forgetfulness, and depression. Ginkgo can help with all of this. Depression in the elderly may not be a neurotransmitter problem, but a cerebral vascular issue in which Ginkgo is indicated.

Ginkgo is famous for assisting memory, focus, and cognition. While it may help one to study, and help memory and cognitive thinking, it works best when this vascular problem is present, especially with the elderly.

Ginkgo may help circulatory headaches that are of a constricted nature. Ginkgo stimulates circulation throughout the body and can help those who run cold (Raynaud’s syndrome), help cold hands and feet, and warm one up. Peripheral circulatory deficiency such as that found with diabetics may also be helped with Ginkgo.

Ginkgo also thins the blood by diminishing platelet-aggregating factors. As such, it is indicated for those with high blood fats resulting in everything from fatty headaches to allergies, inflammatory conditions, hemorrhoids, prostatitis, and pelvic congestion. While Ginkgo can benefit many with fatty thick blood and obvious cardiac problems, Ginkgo is contraindicated for those already on blood thinners.

Ginkgo does not work overnight and is best if used consistently for at least 2 weeks. It can be continued as a long-term tonic, especially in the elderly.
