LifeSource Vitamins CoQ10 is Pharmaceutical Grade (USP). Our CoQ10
products contain only the 100% natural, all-trans form of CoQ10
produced by fermentation.
Coenzyme Q10 is a vitamin-like compound also called ubiquinone. It is an
essential component of cells and is necessary for mitochondrial energy
production. Years of research have shown that CoQ10 supports healthy
cardiovascular and immune system functions in addition to its vital role in
energy production.*
CoEnzyme Q-10 (CoQ-10) is a natural compound that is being used clinically
to medically treat heart disease in Japan, Italy, and China. CoQ-10 is also
used as a natural health product in the USA, Canada, and some other
countries.
In the human body, CoQ-10 is found concentrated in the heart and liver
tissue, where it functions in the respiratory electron transport system in
mitochondria. Consequently, its toxicity to the human body is extremely
low. It has ten isoprene units forming a side chain attached to a benzoquinone ring and all the ten double bonds in the side chain should be in ''trans'' form to be physiologically effective in medicinal applications.
Studies in both animals and humans have associated significantly decreased
levels of CoQ10 with a wide variety of diseases. Since this enzyme is found
in high concentrations in heart muscle cells, deficiency has been associated
with cardiovascular problems including angina, arrhythmia, heart failure,
and high blood pressure.
Studies have shown that enhancing the body's CoQ-10 can:
-
Reduce many of the serious side effects of cholesterol and other
prescription drugs such as adriamycin, beta-blockers, and
psychiatric drugs.*
-
Reduce the effects of aging on numerous facets.*
-
Aids in the recovery from a wide range of heart problems including
angina pectoris, congestive heart failure, and mitral valve
prolapse.*
-
Can reduce blood pressure and blood lipids at just 30 mg day.*
-
Assists chronic fatigue sufferers when administered at 90 to 300
mg per day.*
-
Assists in weight loss by stimulating mitochondria and thermogenic
activity*
-
Treating chronic gum disease*
-
Building a strong immune system as a defense against numerous
diseases.*
-
May normalize blood sugar levels*
-
Helps in maintaining a healthy brain*
Two manufacturing processes are currently being used in Japan and now
the US to commercially produce CoQ-10:
1. Chemical synthesis process
2. Microbial fermentation process
In the case of chemical synthesis, relatively higher rates of
''cis''-isomers in the side chain (pharmacologically less active form) and
Coenzyme Q-9 which has only 9 isoprene units in the side chain are formed
as byproducts that must be eliminated from the final product through a
purification process. On the other hand, the natural fermentation process
yields the ''all-trans'' form Q-10 (pharmacologically active form),
resulting in scarcely a trace of Coenzyme Q-9.
We have expanded our efforts in the research and development of single-cell proteins (microbial protein). They have established a unique continuous
fermentation process utilizing these single microbial cells, which does not
allow contamination by undesirable organisms.
Based on this technology, they have developed their own proprietary process
for the production of CoQ-10. The process uses a selected kind of
Non-Genetically Modified Microorganism that is cultivated in a continuous
fermentor. The fermentation broth is extracted, and then further purified
by a column chromatographic process to yield pure CoQ-10. The whole process
is controlled under GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) and the product is
closely monitored according to the ''Standards for Ingredients of Drugs.
In addition to purchasing what we believe is the purest CoEnzymeQ-10 powder
manufactured, we analyze the incoming bulk material and each of our
finished products. Our laboratory staff utilizes a sophisticated HPLC
method to ensure the proper potency of CoQ-10.
-

CoQ10 supplementation significantly increased HDL cholesterol in
people with coronary artery disease.
-
A 2017 study published in the journal Biofactors found that CoQ10
supplementation significantly reduced total cholesterol and LDL
cholesterol in people with type 2 diabetes.
-
A 2016 study published in the journal Lipids in Health and Disease
found that CoQ10 supplementation significantly increased HDL
cholesterol and decreased LDL cholesterol in people with heart
failure.
-
A 2015 study published in the journal Free Radical Biology and
Medicine found that CoQ10 supplementation significantly reduced
LDL cholesterol and increased HDL cholesterol in people with high
cholesterol.
Here are some additional things to keep in mind about CoQ10 and
cholesterol:
-
CoQ10 is a natural substance that is produced by the body. It is
also available as a dietary supplement.
-
CoQ10 is involved in many important functions in the body,
including energy production and antioxidant protection.
-
Some people with high cholesterol may have lower levels of CoQ10
in their bodies.
-
CoQ10 supplementation may help to lower cholesterol levels in some
people.
-
More research is needed to confirm these findings and to determine
the optimal dosage of CoQ10 for cholesterol reduction.
What else is CoQ10 and what is it good for?
CoQ10 (Co-enzyme Q10) is a vitamin-like compound also known as ubiquinone.
Ubiquinone combines two terms to describe this substance -quinone is a type
of coenzyme and ubiquitous indicates it exists everywhere in the human
body. CoQ10 plays an important role in the body's energy production and is
an essential component of the mitochondria, where it helps to metabolize
fats and carbohydrates and maintain cell membrane flexibility. CoQ10 is
also involved in the production of several key enzymes that are used to
create ATP (Adenosine triphosphate), a key energy storage molecule. Without
CoQ10, you would not be alive.*
CoQ10 is also an effective antioxidant that may beneficially affect the
aging process. As we age, our body's production of CoQ10 declines by as
much as 80%. Because it is so important to energy production, and therefore
life, researchers believe that this decline may be a factor in the effects
of aging on the human body.*
The highest levels of CoQ10 are found in tissues in the body that work the
hardest; like the heart, the liver, etc. Initial studies into CoQ10 found
that persons with cardiac insufficiencies had very low levels of CoQ10, and
that supplementation increased CoQ10 levels. So CoQ10 is not only an
effective antioxidant, but it supports cardiovascular health as well.*
How and when should I take CoQ10?
CoQ10 works better if taken with fats and oils. Many CoQ10 supplements
contain oils in the base and are sold as a capsule.
All forms of CoQ10 will work better if taken with a meal containing fats or
with healthy supplements providing fat, such as fish oil, flax oil, coconut
oil, etc.*
What about the quality of LifeSource Vitamins CoQ10?
LifeSource sells only the natural, 100% all-trans form of CoQ10 that is
produced using natural fermentation and purchased from the leading Japanese
suppliers. This is considered to be the best and most natural form
available. Differences in absorption or utilization of CoQ10 products are
mostly associated with oils added to powdered CoQ10 within a softgel
capsule. These differences are far less important when the supplement is
taken at the same time as other oils or oil-based supplements in the diet,
rather than between meals. This makes it possible to take CoQ10 in a
vegetarian form - or even as a powder - and still enjoy the benefits of
enhanced absorption. .*
If you are considering taking CoQ10 for cholesterol, talk to your doctor
first. They can help you determine if CoQ10 is right for you and can
recommend the best dosage.
Overall, the research suggests that CoQ10 supplementation may be beneficial
for lowering cholesterol levels. However, more research is needed to
confirm these findings and to determine the optimal dosage of CoQ10 for
cholesterol reduction.
It is important to note that CoQ10 is not a substitute for medical
treatment for high cholesterol. If you have high cholesterol, it is
important to work with your doctor to develop a treatment plan that includes
lifestyle changes and, if necessary, medication.
