CoQ10 - Studies Show CoQ10 Helpful for Migraines


Migraine pain is a difficult area in medicine. The conventional treatments for migraines are imperfect because they don’t work in all patients and many have undesirable side effects.

CGRP (calcium gene-related peptide) appears to be intimately connected to migraine headaches. CoQ10 lowers CGRP which blocks pain transmission. A study done in 2018 showed that CoQ10 reduces headache pain, frequency and duration.

CGRP is so powerful that when injected intravenously a study showed that it provoked a migraine in 65% of the people had been known to have experienced migraines in the past.

CoQ10 helps prevent migraines by breaking the cycle of inflammation and neural over-sensitization that contributes to their development.

Doses of 150-400 mg daily of CoQ10 have been shown to lower CGRP and prevent migraine. Also, if patients choose to take a more readily absorbable ubiquinol form of CoQ10 that should be able to reduce the dosage by half as long as they take it with a meal that contains some fat.
