Gotu Kola has been traditionally used as an energizing, cognitive stimulating herb for use in fatigue, confusion, and general lethargy. It seems to have a stimulating effect on the thyroid and is indicated for low functional thyroid activity. Low thyroid can be tested for with a blood test and thyroid hormones are prescribed if it is low. Commonly, the thyroid tests out normal yet one still has the symptoms of low thyroid. These symptoms include fatigue, running cooler than others (feeling cooler in your body), cold hands and /or feet, sluggish bowels, slow digestion or transit time, sleepy-looking eyes if severe, and slower cognitive function. Gotu Kola is indicated for this type of person. One doesn’t need to have all these symptoms to try this herb.

Gotu Kola can be used for those exhausted from emotional upheaval, excessive work habits and for those who simply put out more energy than they put back into themselves. It may help the limbic/emotional brain regulation and hormonal output to help one stay more balanced.
