Whey Protein - for High Blood Pressure, Type 2 Diabetes and Inflammation, who knew?

We all know Muscle mass naturally declines with age and Whey Protein promotes muscle growth, so as we age we should take Protein Powder since normally we eat less meat.

Whey Protein is the protein fraction of whey, which is a liquid separated from milk during cheese production. It is a quality protein which contains all of the essential amino acids. It is very digestible and is absorbed from the gut quickly compared to other types of protein.

Abnormally high blood pressure is one of the leading risks for heart disease. One study in overweight people showed that 54 g per day of Whey Protein was given for 12 weeks. Results of this study showed a 4% decrease in systolic blood pressure. This is also supported by another study that found significant decreases when participants were given Whey Protein of 22 g per day for 6 weeks.

Type 2 diabetes is characterized by high blood sugar and impaired insulin function. Insulin is a hormone that stimulates the uptake of blood sugar into the cells of your body and keeping it within healthy limits. Whey Protein has been shown to be effective at moderating blood sugar by increasing both the levels of insulin and the sensitivity to its effect.

Inflammation is a part of the body’s response to damage. Chronic inflammation can be harmful and is a risk factor for many diseases. A large study found that high doses of Whey Protein significantly reduced C-reactive protein (CRP) which is a key marker of inflammation in the body. This indicates that it helps reduce inflammation.
