Folic Acid / Methyl B12 - Vitamin B12 - Age-Related Hearing Loss Prevention
A 2017 Study showed that when a person has high homocysteine levels it
affects hearing loss. It also found the role for nutritional supplements as
a potential way of preventing age-related deafness. Subjects included
elderly who was found apparently healthy following repeated examination by
physicians.
Studies have also shown that hearing loss is as much a nervous system
condition as it is an ear condition. High homocysteine levels have been
found to be associated with blood-vessel and nervous system damage.
Folic Acid
is a B vitamin necessary for cleaning homocysteine from the blood. Studies
have found that people over 60 years old who had normal hearing had normal
homocysteine levels and those with hearing loss had low folate levels. This
suggests that reducing homocysteine levels with
Methyl Folate
could potentially reverse ongoing hearing loss.
In another study involving about 3,000 people over the age of 50 years;
those with high homocysteine levels were 64% more likely to have hearing
loss than those with low homocysteine levels.
Lowering homocysteine levels can also help prevent conditions like
Strokes
,
Alzheimer’s
and
Parkinson’s
diseases.
CONCLUSION: Serum folate was significantly lower among the elderly with
ARHL.
